Title: Solid Maple Betsy’s
Post by Adam Fann on 04/23/20 at 13:47:30

Good morning everyone. Long time lurker, first time poster. I wanted to build a pair of OB’s and after doing a good amount of research I landed on the Betsy’s due to the simplicity and rave reviews. I have to say that I am astounded with what these little ladies can do!  I can’t stay out of my listening room, I even sold my pair of Klipsch Reference Premium floor standers since I obviously won’t be needing them anymore. Just thought I’d pop in and share my experiences. Stay safe out there everyone.

I’m trying to post pictures but am having a hard time. I’ll keep working on it.

Nice! I love the grain on the wood. Enjoy them, they are special speakers.

They look fantastic! Is this your first open baffle speaker?  What turntable is that?

I agree on the Betsy’s. My favorites. Experiment with tilting them back. See Big Betsy thread. This can make a very nice improvement.

And try different toe-in angles too.

Love the layout. Beautiful!!!

Hello Adam,

Very nice .....  !!!

I'm happy to hear that you like the shape and musicality of my Betsy baffles.

You are not the first person to replace existing speakers with the Betsy baffles. I have sold 300+ pairs since 2015 and have quite a few customers who originally purchased a pair for a "bedroom system".

On a whim, they decided to try the Betsy baffles in their "big rig" and the Betsy baffles have now either replaced their previous reference speakers or are at least sharing time with them in the main system .....

Happy listening,
Randy

It's true.

Thank you everyone for the kind words. I forgot to mention that I was able to get the Anico version of the Betsy’s and am loving the smoothness these drivers are providing.

GroovySauce, my TT is a heavily modified Project/One DR-890 which is a rebranded version of the Hitachi HT-561. It’s a fully automatic table, sounds fantastic and is dead silent.

Geno, thanks for the suggestion. I have been playing with position and toe in, hence the tape on the floor, but haven’t played with tilting them yet.

Randy, thank you for all the research you did to bring us to this wonderful design and also thank you for sharing your design with us DIY’ers. It really is a magical thing.

Adam

Good deal on the Alnico’s. I think they are a definite step above the regular Betsys. IMHO
