Title: A few thoughts on the DNA2's
Post by ScottNC on 02/04/19 at 14:47:30

I got a pm from Tal last night regarding my impressions of the DNA2's which he has on order. I apologize for not getting in to deep with them because I just haven't had the system settled enough (and because I'm a terrible writer!) to get more specific.  :)
Here's my reply:

Hi Tal,
I'd be happy to give you my impressions so far on my DNA2's. While I've had them for about 4 months, it's tough to have any finality as my room is very large and my system has been evolving dramatically over the past several months. Since receiving them, I have added a ZROCK2 w/Type II caps and just had 25th mods done, my Torii MKIV went in for an intermittent problem plus 25th anniversary mods (Full) and will be back shortly, hopefully along side my new ZTPRE which is complete and in QC currently. So I running the DNA2"s currently with a Sony HAP1s, a good little unit, but, not,...DecWare! I just got a set of 3" Maple platforms and carpet spike under the DNA2's and for my room a marked improvement. Everything I have done so far just keeps bringing out a better, fuller, deeper, just plain improved DNA2. The imaging, the musicality, the transparency of them keeps getting better and better. Not knowing what your room situation is, but seeing your current gear, I have to think you are serious about getting the most out of your system.
If your listening room is somewhat "normal" in size, you are in for a very pleasant experience when you get the DNA's. How long have they been on order? If you haven't explored any room treatments I would definitely encourage you to explore some possibilities there, it is time and money well spent, you just gotta give your equipment the right room for it to do what it is supposed to do. That said I have felt I have a need for a sub, but as time things come together it is becoming more of a want than absolute need. (it's really a toy to amuse myself with during late night listening sessions)
In another life back in the late 70's early 80's I had a pair of the original Infinity Servo Statics with the 18" base cube,
and you just can't get that type of sub-base out of anything but a sub. That'll come later though. I've found that in my room, as I think in any, speaker placement is critical and I think I've settled in pretty close to where I'll end with that. It's now to the point of a few inches here or there and still having it work with the room. To me, it also has to look right and fit in. I've had an unbelievable amount of help and input from Steve, Bob Ziegler, Dennis Foley, and countless members of the forum who have spent hours and hours replying to my calls and posts for help, priceless, it's quite a place to be involved in which I know you realize based on your current and upcoming system. I'm anxious to hear from you when you receive your speakers, you are in for some real enjoyment there, they will change your system dramatically. Hope this helps. Feel free to contact me if I can be of any further help.
Best,
Scott

I have a huge loft space where my ERRxs sound awesome.
But, man those DNAs are tempting!

Tommy,

The next step to “Truly Awesome” would be a 25th modded TORII JR, and a pair of DNA2’s   : [smiley=10.gif]

I would have to add that the ZEN 25th and the DNA2 combination is about as awesome as any combination I have ever heard!

Scott

I really appreciate the feedback on your experience with the DNA2s. I sent a reply PM with a few details on my listening area and some follow up questions.
I place my order during the Black Friday sales on 11/23. I  am very familiar with Decware wait time. Nonetheless, I always fall into the nervous  anticipation of receiving new gear. The fact that speaker builds are not tracked on the amp list doesn't help calm my nerves :-X I am sure it will be worth the wait (as usual).  ;)
How long did it take for your DNA2 to be built/shipped?

Hi Tal,
I wish I could give you an accurate answer to that but I really can't. I ordered the DNA2's before, I believe they were even done developing them. I got Steve to put my name on a list back in July, they shipped the 18th of Sept but I really don't know when Bob started to build them. I though I had sent you that info in a pm, I must not have. The last I saw was an answer from Bob to someone that it would take roughly the same amount of time as the DecWare build list is running so that would put them at14-16 weeks or so. If you need Bob's number shoot me a pm or email and I'll get it for you, he's the one that'll be able to give you the info. I know that when he finished mine I was calling him to follow up on something and he was at Home Depot buying foam insulation for putting the shipping carton together for me, so he didn't even have packing for them at that point! I hear you on the wait, I'm to the point I kinda like the anticipation, but that's just sadistic me 8-)
You gotta be getting fairly close because I ordered my ZLC on Black Friday and it's getting there, so take that for what it's worth.
Best,
Scott
