I have never used Tung- Sol tubes. I've always got replacement tubes direct from Manley. Are Tung-Sol preamp tubes quiet? Are there other brands you would recommend?

I've used a pair of reissue Tung-Sol 12AX7 in my ZP3 and they are indeed very quiet, and they were a dependable tube. I found them a tad too bright for ME but I'm allergic to even a hint of brightness.

Worth a try in my opinion.

I've never used the reissue, Chinese?  Russian? Tung Sol 12ax7 but have used the 50's Tung Sol 5751 in my ZP3s and they are very nice and relatively cheap.  You should be able to buy good testing examples on ebay for 20 to 30 dollars each at most.  I saw a couple this morning in fact.  Mark.

PS....these are from the same seller so get combined shipping.  I bet they'd take $50 shipped.

PSS...sorry, after looking again, I decided to buy the strongest testing tube with the best print...It's gone!

Another seller with 5 high testing examples asking $30 ea, I assume you choose which you want...free shipping.  https://www.ebay.com/itm/1-NOS-Tung-Sol-5751-12AX7-Grey-Plate-Tube-E5/162657470725?_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIM.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D41451%26meid%3Df29ca2ed91ee4b048bc570a65b9b38df%26pid%3D100011%26rk%3D4%26rkt%3D12%26sd%3D253220116300&_trksid=p2047675.c100011.m1850

The pair I used were Russian, supposedly modeled after a Telefunken.

I've not used NOS Tung-Sol in 12AX7 but have used 6922 types. . . was not that impressed.

Lon, I haven't tried the 6922 types either but the 50's 5751s are very good and plentiful, I have several to roll.  Right now I've been enjoying standard 60's Amperex 12AX7s in both ZP3s for a while.

Joe's take on them..."Tung Sol 5751 - this guy is a bit of a sleeper and odd man out here, but its worth grabbing if you stumble on it cheap. This tube is a bit different from the others on the list in terms of physical design. All of the other tubes here are of the 3 mica spacer design with short wide plates. This tube, on the other hand, has an internal construction similar to a traditional 12AX7 -tall ribbed grey plates with no 3rd mica spacer. Perhaps as a result of this it sounds a bit like a cross between the two types - while it is not quite as focused as the other top of the heap 5751s, it does have avery good sense of life, body and ambience."

That's cool. I have the ZP3 out of the system now, but it has all Amperex in it and I'm happy and set for a long time myself.
