Title: Best resistors for audio DIY Post by EdGuY on 09/13/17 at 20:25:01 ...especially for pre-amplifiers: Vishay Bulk metal® foil resistors. http://www.vishay.com/docs/49789/vmn-pl03.pdf 😳 https://youtu.be/kiwHIE0eNy0 https://youtu.be/41GC_ZuN6ns |
Title: Re: Best resistors for audio DIY Post by 4krow on 09/14/17 at 17:51:52 No doubt Vishay is one of my choices as well. Also recommended are KOA metal film resistors, according to Gold Point Audio, who make some of the finest stepped attennuators that I have seen. |
Title: Re: Best resistors for audio DIY Post by Crazy Bill the Eel Killer on 09/20/17 at 02:43:38 Hello EdGuy and 4krow, Can't argue the quality of these resistors for the right application. But I wouldn't use one anywhere in a Zen or a clone. There's better choices in my view, and I've played around a lot with component choices in these type amps. I've tried these in my Zen builds, but always preferred other types ( Shinkoh, Riken, Allen Bradley, and some of the newer carbon comps depending upon circuit location ). It's all about system synergy. But, as always, this is a viewer's choice type of thing and there is no absolute. Whatever floats your boat is the way to go. Cheers, Crazy Bill |
Title: Re: Best resistors for audio DIY Post by EdGuY on 09/20/17 at 11:44:09 Isn’t the function of the resistor to handle its share in the circuit without coloring anything and without causing any interference/noise to the circuit, if possible at any temperature levels? Then I think the metal foil resistor is the only right one for that purpose, especially in the preamplifiers. It may of course be that I have understood something wrong, but at leastin in my tests the outcome has been consistent. |
Title: Re: Best resistors for audio DIY Post by 4krow on 09/20/17 at 17:42:23 There are a lot of resistors out there that I haven't tried, mostly due to cost. I have to agree there are better choices to be made in power applications vs audio circuit applications depending perhaps even the type of each circuit. Metal foil is one that I should have tried long ago, yet it skips my mind when ordering. (at $30 ea., now I remember why) |
