Title: What are these? Post by Kefirah on 02/28/17 at 00:22:15 What are these speakers called? They are almost completely flat and have a response that's amazing! They come on the Teac MC D32i. |
Title: Re: What are these? Post by Lonely Raven on 02/28/17 at 03:46:21 Probably electrostats. Basically it's a frame wrapped in Mylar, or some other film, and the material is excited with the current that would normally drive a voice coil. It sounds fast because the material is so light. |
Title: Re: What are these? Post by Kefirah on 02/28/17 at 16:37:40 OK coolness. Thanks |
Title: Re: What are these? Post by Kefirah on 03/04/17 at 18:38:51 What if I put one in a sub box so that I use say,3ft cube and 12in square of electrostatic... What's the cone area plus say 5%of the rubber surround of a typical 12in. Woofer? Calculate the math or use a square surround and copy volumes ? I imagine that a film could be made stiff enough... |
Title: Re: What are these? Post by Kefirah on 03/04/17 at 18:40:12 Faster response? |
Title: Re: What are these? Post by Kefirah on 03/04/17 at 18:44:10 Whoa!Make a flat wound VC as the cone and... Well that'll be difficult... Maybe... And use a rare earth magnets. |
Title: Re: What are these? Post by Kefirah on 03/04/17 at 18:47:14 Figure out how to reduce impedance and still keep it very light. Maybe with no vents it would be faster than a "normal" woofer? |
Title: Re: What are these? Post by Kefirah on 03/04/17 at 18:53:32 If the VC is wrapped around some paperclip size wire then wrapped flat along the surface of the "cone" it would work. |
