Title: Starting my Zkit-1 build
Post by Falconer on 03/18/16 at 21:46:45

Just got confirmation that my order for the pcb boards has been processed. All other items have been ordered except for an enclosure and power cable. I will appreciate any and all suggestions on tips for construction and upgrades for the amp. I plan on building these a mono blocks. I will post lots of questions during the build so please help by  responding. I will post pics as I progress.

It's a fun project to do.
Take your time and plan out the layout for the enclosure. I made mine out of a very heavy gauge steel and it was a pain in the ass to cut and drill. I add a stand by switch to mine so the heaters to the amp will stay on while the rest of the amp is off.
See the "first time build" thread.

Thanks jpv, I'll take a look at your thread

Circuit boards arrived yesterday, still waiting on the transformers. Back ordered items include tube sockets, 3.3uf/400v cap, 300ohm 5% 5W resistor and binding post. I need to order items for the CCE mod, wire to hook up binding post and pot to the board (mounting them on the enclosure). Can someone let me know what type/kind/size of wire to hook these up with? Still thinking on how I want to build the enclosure. I ordered two boards, I want to build these as mono blocks.

Well this somewhat dated video was invaluable to me when I started my pair:

I watched carefully to pick up on the wire types and things to avoid.
The grounding comments are MOST important.

The circuit boards are dated 2015. The last revisions I came across on here is 2011. Anyone know what has changed with this latest revision?

Yep. Everyone built to order.
I was lucky and got the output transformers in about 3 weeks.
Power transformers were a bit longer I think.

Seems I came across a topic that said orders would take about 6-8 weeks.

Transformers should be here tomorrow. Still waiting on a couple of items but I should be able to start on the case. Thinking about using zebra wood for the sides. I'll have to check the local woodcraft store and see what's available. I don't want to have simple mitered corners on the case. Planning on using a locking miter router bit for the corners and then using a contrasting wood and make reinforcing dovetail splines. The top plate would look good with a black chrome paint, but that might be too hard to get right.

Transformers arrived yesterday. That's five weeks and three days for those of you that were counting. There are a few odds & ends coming from Hong Kong which should be here in a few days. Need to figure out what size case I want to build and get the top & bottom plates ordered.

Sorry for not updating the past couple of months. Got sidetracked on some Reel to Reel decks while waiting on some long lead times for a couple of items for the kits. I have all of the components, I just need to get some hookup wire to remote mount the volume control and inputs/outputs. Still need to decide size of case I want to use.
