Title: trapeziums for bookshelves?
Post by Clif on 12/28/12 at 14:37:41

i need a small bookshelf speaker with high efficiency. Would the Trapeziums work well on a bookshelf? I'm worried that the plane of the drivers points upward, which might hurt the tonal balance.

Another question: What are the virtues of the Trapeziums? What can I expect in sound compared to say a ProAc Tablette or LS3/5a?

Thanks,
Clif

Cliff,

With the way the port exits the bottom of the Trapeziums, and what you have already mentioned the upward tilt, I don't think the Traps will work in your situation.

The DM045's  have a back firing port, which could be problematic on a bookshelf, but can easily be plugged with foam essentially turning the box into a lossy sealed box, which can work very well on a bookshelf.

In other words, the DM945's would in my opinion be the better choice!

Thank you for the reply! Unfortunately the DM945's are too tall for my shelves.

It's time for a mini, front-firing bass port bookshelf/computer speaker.

It is time for bigger shelves!

RR  Don't get me started on something new....Not needed at this time for sure!

Donnie, I'd expect no less from you. Too funny!

Cliff, You could always lay the DM945's on their side. While not the best situation, but then again speakers on a bookshelf isn't the best either.  Sometimes that is all we can do, I understand.

Cliff,
I have the Proac Tablettes and I would not put them on a book Shelf.
They need to be on stands out in the room to work. I have had my pair for many years and they never let me down.
They also have a rear port.

ZYGI: Yeah, I'm asking for a little too much, and have too many constraints.

jpv: Those Tablettes look like my black ash Super Tablettes I had about two decades ago. They were wonderful paired with VTL Tiny Triodes. I spent many a happy night listening to chamber music, orchestral music, jazz, and rock. You could throw anything at them (that was not digital) and they sounded good.
