Would you please describe the "custom" aspect in more detail?  And what kind of wood is that?  Thank you.

Mac5u

That happens to be heavily figured curly maple. That pair was one of my favorites.

Figured Maple is one of my favorite woods.

Other than that, they are just pain old MG944's

Thanks Don,

The hardest part was finding matching solid wood for the front edges. Made grain matching the easy part, the color of the maple was the toughest.

Chris, your right.

Nothing plain about the MG 944's!

Mike and I were playing a set yesterday morning, just prior to packaging. We were listening to City Of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra, Pirates Of The Caribbean, Curse of the Black Pearl and the bass was just awesome.

The City Of Prague  100 Greatest Movie Themes needs to be checked out....Great stuff!!!

Very nice work, indeed.

Me, I could not choose today, but the finalists would be either a high-gloss Mexican Cocobolo, Pau Ferro Rosewood, or Crotch Mahogony.

You have to be careful with patterned figure woods, like crotches or burls. As beautiful as they are when they are book matched, when not book matched, they can be uglier than just plain wood. It also adds to the cost in a lot of cases due to the fact that it need to be a raw veneer (more labor) and two times is much material if book matched and four times as much for a four way book match.

But can look good like this...

Hi ZYGI,

Wonderful job on those speakers, I can't PM you because I'm new and don't have the 5 post count.

I would love to know if I could get a pair of these made in ebony macassar.  Could you pm or email me the cost if possible.

                                  Thanks!     Rapt!

I was just considering a pair of speakers in that style maple, actually! Gorgeous! So, one can get MG944's without the black banding/indent on the sides? Very elegant looking!

Wow Zygi, these are really beautiful!  Sorry I'm late to the party here, but these look like totally different speakers than the ones listed for sale on the main site ... because the cabinet in the picture above looks to be all one level and the top and sides blend in with the rest of the speaker, but the main site shows them with black sides that are slightly lower than the middle cabinet, etc.

If you upgrade to exotic woods, does the cabinet style change as well?  These are serioulsy sexy and you should use this picture on the main site, because they look like a totally different speaker!
