Title: Need help with first WO32 build and a tight budget
Post by OldJunk on 02/28/09 at 22:07:21

I am looking for a pair of low cost tens to use to build my first wo32. Since I am on a tight budget I'd like to stick to 40-50 bucks per driver(less is better) if possible.

Here are some drivers I was looking at. I am kind of partial to the pioneer because it seems close to the original Vifa although the vas might be to large?

I am sure there are other choices too. Eventually I will upgrade the drivers so if there are any car audio subs that would work I'd like to know too since I could probably re-sell them.

Any way what do you think of the above choices? Will any of them be OK or can someone point me in a better direction if I did not find any good ones?

Thanks much in advance to all for your help on this[/b]

OldJunk,

If you're going to upgrade any way, I'd look at the 295-315 10" classic series driver.

Thanks for the info.

Out of curiosity why that woofer and not the MCM Order #: 55-1945 or MCM Order #: 55-1555 they seem to be closer to the original Vifa's specs? I'm new to all this so I don't know how to interperet the specs.

Also what about this driver? http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=290-088

I don't think I will get it because its more than I want to spend but it seams to be a real good match too?

OldJunk,

I guess my first reason was price, if you are planning to upgrade, why spend close to what the real deal might cost you. Number two was i know what it sounds like in the WO-32 not the Vifa and not what goes into them from Decware, but very decent.

Not to go through each of the drivers you listed, here is what to stay away from.....foam surrounds, poly cones and a front mounting surface which has no large or flat mounting suface, if  it doesn't have a front mounting gasket. I'd prefer to stay with paper and a cast frame, although the driver we use right now is a stamped frame, if you look at its depth verses its height it is much stronger than  the average stamped basket. It is real easy to ms-align the bores when you mount the drivers, which could ruin date night.

Hey, ZYGI Thanks for the info. That's exactly what I needed a suggestion backed by the experiance of using the choice. In your opinion how do the Daytons sound? Good enough to live with for a while?

Also if am lucky I might have 120 bucks for drivers for this project. If I do by chance have the extra cash, what 50-60 dollar ea drivers would you recommend?
