In his "Micrographia" in the year 1664, Robert Hooke writes of optical discoveries he has made. In a paragraph of digression on the other senses he says:
"And as Glasses have highly promoted our seeing, so 'tis not improbable, but that there may be found many Mechanical Inventions to improve our other Senses, of hearing, smelling, tasting, touching. ... And though some famous Authors have affirm'd it impossible to hear through the thinnest plate of Muscovy-glass; yet I know a way, by which 'tis easie enough to hear one speak through a wall a yard thick."

According to Noah Webster, Muscovy-glass is the old name for common potash Mica.
Well this sounds perfect! Do any of you know of this? Is Mica a wonder worker where sound proofing is wanted?

I could say that my listening room is "triple mica."

I have read about these discoveries by Robert and they are indeed quite interesting.
