Title: Imperials for sale or trade
Post by dank on 04/20/07 at 22:48:58

After a couple of year in storage, I have come to the conclusion that my musical tastes have changed enough so I am willing to part with my Imperials.  If someone else could use them, I would be willing to let them go.  I would like to get back what I've got into them, namely 10 sheets of 3/4" plywood (about $400).  They are empty cabinets, set up for dual 18's.  Here is a pic:

It would be very easy to convert them back to take 15's.  They were originally built with removable baffle boards.  There is also a protective grill that fits over the speakers to keep dust and other things out.  They are located in the Twin Cities of Minnesota.  I might also consider a trade of some sort.

PM / email / post if interested.

Dan

If you are in California, its "only" around 2000 miles.  I'm not going to drive that far for 10 sheets of plywood!
You could always move to Minnesota.  Then you would be closer to DecFest too. :)

Hey Dan K-

We talked about working out something for these Imperials, and obviously- I just can't work out owning them.  To many things come up while being a college student with minimal living area.  Not to mention the subs and amp I have already spent too much money on are ill-suited for use in the Imperials.  I plan to just build a WO for them and live without Imperials for awhile until I can actually handle owning them.

For anyone interested in Dan K's Imperials- I can personally attest to the outstanding build quality and sheer awesomeness these Imperials represent.  When they had 18s in them I was just amazed at the effortless and extremely clean bass.  It was truly amazing, and is still my idea of what perfect subs sound like.  Dan is also an awesome guy- very honest and extremely nice (even for a Minnesotan).  Deal with absolute confidence that Dan is not going to misrepresent his Imperials or rip you off.

Hey Dank

A couple of questions if the cabinests are still available...

- what is the total weight of the cabinets?
- would they fit comfortably together on a skid for shipping?
- how far are they located from So. St. Paul?

thanks,

Paul

I don't know anything about skids or shipping that way so I couldn't say.  They are slightly over 2' deep so there is no way to fit them both in a full size pickup truck and get the tail gate closed unless you stand them up.

I am about 50 miles from S St Paul, but I work fairly close so if they had to go to S St Paul it wouldn't be too painful for me to deliver them.

I think the real question is, do you have to move them
up or down a flight of stairs. Seeing them on that truck
makes me realise just how big they are.
PS. Too bad they don't have drivers in them... while traveling
you can have the loudest audio on the road. [smiley=50.gif]

I am pretty sure I could stack both on a skid and get them shipped fairly easily...easily, not inexpensively. Looking at the photo, I have to decide how I would place them in my listening area. I believe these are the original Imperial design, not the SO's, so these would primarily be for sub bass as compared to full range speakers

I have been reading the posts trying to understand the differences between the original design and the Decware design and which are the correct drivers to use in this type of cabinet. There is a lot of info and some that is contradictory. I just need to weed through it all. I guess I need the Readers Digest version.

I shifted the Imperials 120 miles on the back of my Utility/Pickup no
problem. The tray is about 5ft6ins by 7ft long and I laid them
on their sides. Left the drivers in too. Wish I could have
plugged them into a good CD player for the trip home. The
kangaroos would have got an earful of Led Zeppelin.

Oh, you must tie them down. At 60mph, even though they are
heavy, the Imperials still want to move.

Oh, and note the Imperial measurements. GTBOS.

Cheers
