Your Zen Triode Kit comes with everything needed to completely assemble and listen to your new amp. All you will need is solder, a small amount of hookup wire and these invaluable web instructions. Everything else is supplied in your Kit.

This kit contains no circuit boards, requires the ability to read and understand schematics, as well as solder in tight places. This is NOT a good project for the novice kit builder, but is offered for those who already have experience building amplifiers.

LET'S BEGIN

To build your Zen amp correctly, understand at the time of this article I have personally hand built over 100 of these, and almost 20 prototypes before that.

I learned an interesting thing about building amps during this process and it was simply that small things make a big difference.

Even though after 20 prototypes I thought the amp was perfect, I found subtle ways to improve the parts layout over the course of building the first 50 units and realized that there is no way someone could build a single prototype of any amplifier regardless of his or her skill and judge the resulting sound to be representative of that circuit.

All these variations I went through can be broken down into three main things:

The first is parts values, the second is part brands, and the third is the topology of the parts and how it effects the soldering and single path length. Even if you take a simple circuit like this Zen amp and start trying all combinations of these three things, you will find the number of combinations to be huge. Interesting thing,... in an amplifier this pure, each of these combinations yields a detectable change to the sonic signature and or performance of the amplifier.

So with that rather long winded introduction you can feel comfortable that you will be able to build an amplifier that is finely evolved work of art.
