Took my Trapeziums to work.

I'm enjoying my Trapeziums right now and am compelled to write.

I got my Traps back 6 months ago.  Played them on the Torii in a large living room and really appreciated how punchy these tiny speakers were.  They would really kick and created a tiny little soundstage in front of me on the coffee table.  After a while, I tired of switching between them and my HDT's.  And as large speakers, the HDTs do fill the room and reach lower than the Traps.  So they sat unused.

Lately I decided I was tired of mp3's and 2.1 sound on the computer at the office.  First I brought in some cheap old speakers stating a response down to 50hz and a tiny Jolida amp.  Sounded pretty good.  But I knew I should bring in better music.  So in came an HD with lossless rips of my music.  Of course, immediately better.  But then I could tell the speakers were holding things back.  Guess what? I already had some speakers that were made for a desktop, so in came the Trapeziums. Wow, on the desk in a small office, the sound was much bigger, way better than in my (large open plan) living room.  I brought in a better dac and loved it even more.  And finally I decided, what the hell, I'm curious how my SE84C+ which also spends too much time disconnected will sound.  At home the SE84C+ and the Trapeziums were a little weak in the large room.  It was the power of the Torii that showed me that these Traps have some balls on them and can kick you in yours.

Well, in the office, about 90 sq feet...swapping out the jolida for the Se84C+, the added speed and clarity from the zen (faster than the Torii, which is why I kept the Zen) shined right on through the Trapeziums.  And the better room size, made the zen seem more powerful. (also I'm closer to the speakers).  In any case, this combination is extremely awesome.  During the day, I only use 25% of the volume to keep my neighbors from getting constipated facial expressions and avoiding eye contact with me.  After work, depending on the source level, I use only 35% to 55% of the volume.  The amp is plenty powerful here and it is so soooo clear.  While it's true that the deepest notes of electronic music are missing from these or any tiny speaker, what these things do right is portray real instruments and voices.  I hear this at home on the HDT's.  I hear reality.  Now with the tiny zen and the Trapeziums, I hear reality in my office.  I hear real guitars, violins, pianos, voices, etc on my desk.  It's amazing.  What I thought were limitations in a large room, are completely gone in this room.  This is as good as my home setup... just different.

So...yeah, these are great speakers.  I stay at work too long now and don't mind so much.

Thanks for letting us know about the Traps. Sounds as if you've found a great match between amp and speaker adn should have years of enjoyment ahead!

You've told my story right there. My Zen and SE84C+ are a match made in heaven. Any given day I hear Marcus Roberts playing piano beside  my computer screen; or Annie Ross singing Ellington with Zoot Sims, or any combination of artists. I turn my ZEN all the way up and it is astonishing.
