Coupling sub in trunck to cabin (Read 2220 times)

tz250w Verified Member Posts: 3	Coupling sub in trunck to cabin 05/22/10 at 12:35:38 Is it necessary to cut a hole in the rear deck of a sedan with the fuel tank behind the rear seats to couple the sub output to the cabin? Considering a deathbox 10 bandpass along with sealed or ported box. The car is a 1990 Mercedes Benz 300E. regards, Paul.

I would just install the sub with a good amp and head unit. If you want more bass then you can decide if you need to make a hole or just upgrade your equipment.

Since such a great seal between cabin and trunk is a given, why not find a way to use the trunk as an enclosure and set your drivers between the trunk and the cabin. Maybe the rear deck would be a good baffle for a sub (or two) that works in a large enclosure.

Just a thought.

I have only done this once and (it was a Chrysler Imperial) had plenty of area on the rear deck to place two fifteens. It was awesome, but it needed to be sealed more perfectly to work the way I had hoped.

Hondab100s Verified Member Posts: 21	Re: Coupling sub in trunck to cabin Reply #3 - 08/04/11 at 03:19:38 Would be difficult utilizing the volume in the trunk for bass reflex while still effectively getting to your ears seeing that you pretty much have several inches of sound deadening material between both cavities. The baffle concept seems best...though there will still be a lot against you....car just isn't made for it.
