OK, I have tried a song off of several CDs this morning before settling on this.  I'm trying to get a handle on a pair of tubes I bought from Jeff for $12  http://www.decware.com/cgi-bin/yabb22/YaBB.pl?num=1400526848 ...50's RCA 6BQ7As...I went back and read the thread again and will take Will's experience and buy some Brimar 6BQ7As.  This type is said to be similar to the Russian 6N1P that so many like and comes stock in many Decware Amps. At first I put them in and on listening to the Monos without warm up they sounded a bit fuzzy compared to the Amperex 7308s I had in there previously but now after warm up the fuzziness is mostly gone and they sound detailed and warm with nice Bass...way better than tubes costing $6 a piece have a right to sound!  I'll keep them in there for a few days and look for some more of this tube type to try...they are very cheap.

On a side note, yesterday I bought a pair of 1964 Amperex Bugle Boy 6DJ8 tubes to try.  Input tubes are my next focus of experimentation, with the tube to beat being the 60's Amperex 7308s I have in the Torii and until this morning, the Monos.  Mark.

PS...I just began the second CD...one I recently listened to to compare but my Audio Memory is very very short.

CD #5 from this massive Galaxy Box.  I think this recording is from one of his tours of Japan...wonderful.  Mark.

This one is nicely recorded. Seems simplistic on top but over time has shown its subtleties for me. I really like Van Dijk/Van Dykie's work with Ann Burton.

Same Box,  CD #6.  You haven't lived until you hear one of Art's versions of "Over The Rainbow"...the live version I'm listening to now is heavenly.  Mark.

PS...the 7308's have gone back into the Monos.  I was getting some distortion with the RCA Living Stereo CD.  It didn't go away with the tube change...must have been the recording.  It isn't present with the Galaxy Art Pepper CDs.  I think I like the 7308's better...no surprise!  They seem more refined and clear. And overall just more musical and pleasing to me....that's what counts!

I'm starting a 4 hour Vinyl listening session in the Listening Cave with a little Velvet Fog...Sounds wonderful.  I have no urge to tube roll today.  The ZP3 will sport a Phillips Mini Watt 12AU7 and two GE Black Plate Triple Mica 5751s. Mark.

Now this LP played a bit too loud.  I love Steely Dan...that would be the Band!  Mark.
