Yikes, I think my Dec685 is dying?

I think the transport is having some issues. I wonder if I can repair it?

Basically if the CDs and DVDs are lightly scratched, it either doesn't read it or just skips over. It seems to only happen around the end of the CDs or DVDs, so maybe the unit has harder time reading when it it reading from the outer edge. (I used to be able to play really scratched up discs just fine before, so something has changed)

I was thinking maybe I should dust the lense to see if that improves it. Thoughts? Do I need to lubricate any moving parts inside?

Well, I fixed the problem. Smiley

I opened up the CD player and overall it was clean in there. No dust on the lens or anything weird. I cleaned up a bit anyway, and was fiddling around with the transport and the reading mechanism and noticed the bolts on rubber grommet that holds the lens and the motor pieces together. I tightened them up about 1/8 turn which removed the slight slack it had. That seemed to cured the problem. Now the DVDs and CDs that won't play certain tracks would play them just fine.

I am very excited! I think the sound actually improved very slightly Grin

Hmmm, that's a keeper of a tip which I'll keep at the tip of my cortex.

Muchos gracias!

Hmmm, I've got a Jolida that's been "freezing-up" periodically. Time for a closer look, thanks for the tip!
