Channel balance problem (Read 1298 times)

Channel balance problem

I purchased a used select knowing that it had a weak channel.  The right channel is weak and distorts at moderate volume when using the front RCA inputs.

When using the rear inputs the problem disapears.  What should I check first? input cathode resistors?

Hi Joel, I hope I'm not insulting your intelligence, but did you try different driver tubes and perhaps also flipping the byass switch to see if there was any change in signal strength?

Yes I tried different driver tubes same problem.

The bypass switch helped some but the problem is still there (to a lesser degree).

I don't believe you could insult my intelligence, since you are offering to help.  8-)

I  just  discovered a  problem on one of  my  Selects  with one of the  front  input  sockets  being  loose. It was  causing a  hum and  decreased  volume.

Check to make  sure both inputs are both  firmly  seated.

Also check the solders at the front RCA's to make sure they are good.  If you are getting good balance with the rear RCA's the problem must be somewhere between the front RCA's and the point where they connect to the pins of the input tube.
