Hi Lon

The RCA was it a 5U4GB or a 5V4GB ie "u" or "v" or are they effectively the same thing? My Ruby and RCA  are both 5U4GB....... phew bloody complicated or what  ;)

Rap - whats that? not seen anybody using that one before  :-[ Any particular manufacturer they seem quite cheap on ebay

It's a "V". . . they're not electrically the same, but they both work in the Select.  I think the V has a lower voltage. . .?

I thought it was warm and deep sounding.

Sorry Andy, no free rides. Mine are NOS Mullard gz32's I was lucky and got a pair for about 100$ but often they can cost that for a single tube in the original blue box Roll Eyeshere is a pair on e-pay. The good thing about this pair to my eye´s is that they are offering to cryo the tubes for free if the buyer so wishes. Very tempting and a bit crafty, if you ask me.

Hi Rap, That link you provided is a good one. That guy also advertises on audiogon as KR Audio Products. I have bought many tubes from him and really liked the service. I agree that a gz32 is very good in a zen,I bought two that were cryo'ed from him and have not felt the desire to try anything else.   Isn't a 5v4 the same as a gz32?    Tish

Substituted the RCA 5U4 for a Used Mullard GZ32. Instantly there is more bass which has come forward in the soundstage and is more pronounced and coherant.  Thanks Rap.

Then I changed the stock Svetlana`s SV 83`s for a pair of Brimar EL84 Which has again changed the dynamics of the mix, things seem faster. This is after swopping the input tube to a 6922.

Think this little amp is now a world beater excellant can`t wait to get my hands on another select to put them into Mono.

GZ32 user in the Select here, also...

You've gotta try the military sv83 (6n15n-ev) as it's miles better than the more lightly built Svetlana sv83. They're not terribly pricey, but what a difference.
