scaleing it in a nutshell (Read 5066 times)

60ndown Ex Member	scaleing it in a nutshell 01/16/07 at 02:12:06 i have 2 sexy 12s (high power high excursion) to put in a new build, its gonna be another wo, im leaning towards scaleing all the numbers by 1.2 over just makeing it 2 inches taller and angling the baffle. in 10 words or less which would you do and why?

I'd sell them 2 sexy 12's and buy 2 more reasonable 10's (ie. - cheaper) and a reasonable sized amp with the money. Should have enough left over to pay for the box materials as well as a couple of cases of beer.

Sorry, but you wanted opinions.

I don't think anyone really needs more than this simple setup can deliver (reasonably powered 10's), I wouldn't put anything larger than a 10 in a WO and I'm not sure why you always insist on massive overkill in the driver dept. but don't seem to adapt the plans much to accomodate these monsters.

Ex Member	Re: scaleing it in a nutshell Reply #7 - 01/16/07 at 15:21:37 try it 2" taller if you're not too sure about upscaling. the rl-p likes sealed boxes around 1.2 cf. looks like the sealed chamber in the wo is close. and if you decide on buying 10's, look at some fi's or bm's or even rl-i's

WO=36x36x13.5 or 10.125 square feet.
Every dimension 1.2 bigger would be 43.2x43.2x16.2 or 17.496 square feet.
Just making it 2" taller would be 36x36x15.5 or 11.625 square feet.
If you want exactly it 20% bigger it would be
36x36x16.2 or 12.15 square feet.
10.125 + 20% = 12.15
In my opinion, that would be the best way to go because the horn lengths would stay exactly the same and your cone size to horn size ratio would be accurate.
Try the math yourself and you'll see what I mean.

In ten words of less:
You can't fit a Wicked one in a nutshell 60

I use the 2 inches taller because that was Steves advice to me on the 12" and its simplier. Oh ya It does change the horn length and Big Air had good results that way was also a reason ( sorry thats more than ten words)
