Rivieraranch,

I'm also using the Sennheisers HD600 with the CSP2. Well, I've got the HD650 and the Alessandro MS1i (by GRADO) too.

The MS1i is 32 ohms like your SR325i so I imagine that they don't sound enough good with the CSP2 like me with my MS1i because they need lots of current and OTL is not for them.

RR, share you thoughts when you've got the new CSP2+ with the GRADOs & Sennheisers compared with the previous CSP2, ok? ;)

Any idea of the type of headphones & impedance this mod is suitable apart from planar magnetic cans?

The issue I have is not to do with the physical size of the enclosure, it is more to do with its output method. To elaborate, my plan is to mount a Hwk to the outside of the rink barrier at each end, and then by changing the top port to face the same direction as the bottom ports, I will cut holes of the same size in the rink barrier. The reason for this is that the rink walls are approx 2 meters high, half plastic and half plexi glass. So this means that the only place suitable for an imperial is flown 2 meters high, which is not aesthetically practical.
However 3 small holes cut into the lower (plastic) half of the rink barrier would be suitable. So the only thing I need to know is if this design will have the correct output and dispersion characteristics to suit this application. Also ideas on the best driver to achieve this.
All help is very much appreciated.
David

Hi,
I'm using a Lenco Gl88 with a Sme 3009 ii and Kontrapunkt b connected to a Whesttwo phono stage and a Lenco Professional arm P77 with a nude Dl103 through a Musical Fidelity V3. (two arm player)

As for choosing, I don't like using step-up transformers but prefer MC cartridges so solid-state phono-amps are a must (fewer interconnects as well).
One arm is for medium compliance(SME) and the other (P77) for low/medium compliance carts (sometimes run a GE rpx for 78's) I guess I want a TT that can play anything.

These are connected via a passive-pre buffered with a Musical Fidelity buffer to a pair of mono'ed selects into HDT's MAC wires through out.

Someone called and wanted me to explain the layout and the resulting transparency it brings to the table...

The input and output jacks are floating with a common ground that feeds a straight copper 14 gauge wire going to the tube socket. This is the ground buss... the negative side of your signal path. The power supply filter caps and the virtual center tap from the fast recovery diode bridge is located in the center of the ground buss. The steel chassis acts only as an RF and Magnetic shield as the whole audio circuit floats within. I'm using .47uf 400V Auricaps because I like the signature they have in this unit, at these voltages and with most NOS 5963 tubes... not to mention the flexible stranded copper leads which are constant with the copper used throughout the signal path. The circuit, believe it or not is basically identical to the front end of a Zen Triode amplifier, but using 12 volt tubes instead of the 6922 used in the Zen Triode. There are some differences, the voltage is far lower, and the heaters are starved so that the unit has undetectable odd order harmonic distortion (often associated with solid state sound) and increased even order harmonics at some 60dB down. It's a little ZBOX magic in a gain stage vs. a buffer stage like the ZBOX.

I am into 6K6 territory now. They are cheap as spit ($4.00 for NOS Westinghouse smoked glass or Channel Master gray plate Japanese) and they sound similar to the 6V6. The unit runs cool with them, too.

Soon I will pull out the 6Y6's again and see what rectifier sounds best. I have some 6V4/EZ80's that strike a mid-point between 6CA4/EZ81 and 6X4/EZ90.

I use a Mini Tori with MG944 speakers and it fills my every need. I use primarily CD, some vinyl and occasional FM stereo. The unit does not need a preamplifier, in fact I tried my CSP2 with the Mini and it got in the way.

There are so many tube combinations possible with it that you can really explore which sounds best to you. Or you can just run it with 6V6 tubes and it will sound great. The volume is there as well.

One reason I opted for the MG's instead of one of the radials was that they were at time time bargain priced. Now that they are priced near the ERR's you might want to decide which design you would better like. I am not familiar with the radials but many here are. I know that with the MG944's you would not be disappointed. They do not need a subwoofer.
